Planners have unveiled a design for thousands of homes, a hotel and retail businesses in the area around the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum on the South Carolina coast.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the design was discussed on Tuesday during a meeting of the Patriots Point Development Authority board in Mount Pleasant.

The plan proposes using land for as many as 2,000 homes. An upscale hotel and retail businesses are also envisioned for about 400 acres of prime waterfront at Patriots Point on Charleston Harbor.

Authority board chairman John Hagerty asked what revenue the plan would bring and how it could be used to preserve the museum's aging warships.

Urban designer George Kramer said he would have numbers for the board next month.
