GET READY TO GO GREEN!!!

Earth Day is a 40 year old holiday...a tradition, if you will. The idea came from U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson.  April 22 has become the day each year when people from all over the country and across the globe celebrate our Earth & environment, and try to come up with solutions on how to make it better.  We take a good look at how we affect the beautiful World we were put in, both positively & negatively.

As people living on this earth, as workers, brothers, sisters, & homeowners, we are becoming more and more aware of how much energy we consume. On the 'homeowner' aspect, we see that from the moment our homes are constructed, we are consuming resources and extracting toxins into the air through paints, stains, gas, etc. Once we are in our homes, we use a hundreds of products every day in our normal routines..cleaners, dish soap, detergents, lawn care products/sprays, and all of which use (and sometimes over-use) mother nature's resources.

Change starts with Me. Change starts with You. And we learn through knowledge & learning. So, this Earth Day let's learn more about what we can do. If we all make a slight change in the way we use resources, we WILL make a difference. We can. There are so many people living in this world, that one small change in our daily routine, and we CAN see an amazing difference.  Not sure what to do? Read some of these facts to get the mind thinking....

~A plastic bottle takes around 1,000 years to bio-degrade. And Americans toss 2,500,000 plastic bottles every hour? Unreal, isn't it? Just make a conscience decision before you throw away a plastic bottle today. We can get these number

~1 quart of oil can contaminate up to 2 million gallons of fresh water? Let's start properly disposing of oil by taking it to a local Auto Zone, or something like that store. Every AutoZone store accepts used batteries for recycling and 95% of their stores accept used motor oil and other used fluids.

~Every year, each American throws out about 1,200 pounds of garbage that can be composted.  If you can, think about buying a composting bin for your yard.  Educate yourself. Find out what items are compostable, and which ones aren't.

~Become pro-active about recycling. See what you can do in your workplace about recycling...If you work in an office environment where paper is being thrown out with all the other trash, GO GET A BIN! Make a place for the paper to go.  Find a local recycling center take take it every other week. Get on some type of schedule. These things WILL HELP!

~Contact your local garbage company or recycling center and see what programs they may already have in place. If your community doesn't collect at the curb, then save up your bottles and other recyclables (paper, plastic, glass bottles, cardboard, and aluminum cans) and take them to a local center.

~WANT TO BE REALLY GREEN? ~

Replace plastic water bottles with a water filtration system.  If you are trying not to break the bank in all of this,  use a Brita filter that attaches straight to your faucet, or try a Brita water pitcher to use and refill.

But... if you want to take it to an even "greener" level, there are whole house water filtration systems that will even filter the water you shower in! These systems can cost less than $1,000 & will last for years!

MAKE SURE YOU DO YOUR PART THIS YEAR. EVEN YOU CAN SPARE ONLY ONE DAY OF BEING GREEN, MAKE IT BE ON EARTH DAY...APRIL 22, 2010. MAKE ONE SMALL CHANGE THAT WILL MAKE OUR END RESULT HUGE!!!!
